To some Motley Crue were a institution, a major cog within the glam-metal scene in the 80’s, to others they were the sole bearers and purveyors of sordid glam, poseurs with a distorted penchant for decadent trash music. Whether its from the soaring apocalyptic guitar solo in ‘Dr. Feelgood’ that gets the pinball machine covered in PVC laden rock chicks in your memory or the spiky cue of “guitar” shouted from Vince Neill, the sexual innuendo of the provocative ‘She Goes Down’ it all seems to transport you back to the big hair, bandana-wearing, leather-clad golden days where the Crue stunk of sex appeal and were drenched head-to-toe in Jack Daniels. And we relive these decadent days through the fingers of former Cult and Bon Jovi production guru Bob Rock’s insightful touch in this re-issue. Within the re-mastered blockbuster album ‘Slice Of Your Pie’s rock purrs anthemically, buffered by Mick Mars’ insurgent licks that serve up the Crue’s bombastic approach and howls of testosterone through their instruments. The dirty rock of ‘Rattlesnake Shake’ and even the slightly cringe-worthy ‘Time For A Change’ can’t detract from the fact that they smudge the acceptable with the cinders of their hellish souls and makes us smile. Like them or loathe them, this is a feel good album. And, the Crue rocked in their day, thanks for the reminder Dr.
